Nowadays, the marine pollution of microplastics gather attention from all over the world. Plastic is used for various daily necessities such as containers and clothes, and especially regarding cosmetics, plastic powder (e.g. PMMA and Nylon) is used in a foundation. While every manufacturer is looking for the replacement, Japan Natural Products (JNP) has succeeded in developing Amylopectin Powder F which is the smooth powder produced by the special process from 100% rice, and we introduce it as a replacement for plastic powder.
In producing a powder foundation, how to mix powder and oil uniformly decides its quality. Oil Delivery Powder, which is a powder product developed by JNP, is composed of Amylopectin Powder F and oil, and it looks like simple white powder but contains 20-25% oil. You add it to a formulation and stir it, and the oil is released over the whole formulation uniformly. Because this process is powder-to-powder, you can add a minimum oil quantity to a powder foundation uniformly without lumps or non uniform, which are caused frequently when you add liquid oil.
Amylopectin Powder F is the smooth powder produced by the special process from 100% rice. The particle size is about 5 μm and the feel is very soft. It does not absorb oil or water and rarely causes swelling or stickiness, and therefore, you can use it as a replacement for plastic powder such as PMMA and Nylon.

We compared the volume of Amylopectin Powder F and conventional rice powder, which are the same weight. Though Amylopectin Powder F was larger when they were dry (upper picture), the conventional rice powder was lager when they were in water. These results indicate that Amylopectin Powder F does not absorb water and rarely causes swelling unlike the conventional rice powder.
Oil Delivery Powder is the mixture of Amylopectin Powder F and low polarity oil. Observing it under an electron microscope, we can know that the cohesion structure of Amylopectin Powder F enclosing the oil. As it is added to a formulation of a powder foundation, the structure are broken easily at a stirring process, and the oil is released over the whole formulation. Because you can add oil as powder, lumps and non-uniformity do not happen, and you can add a minimum oil quantity uniformly. You can select oil from the four kinds: dimethicone, olive squalane, sugar suqualane, and hemisqualane.
